It’s only fitting that I start my first post answering the question, what does a graphic designer do?

Generally speaking, designers take information, text, scribbles, verbal expectations, sometimes even hand jesters and translate into a visual form of communication. This visual form can be as simple as a newspaper ad to something as complex as a businesses identity.

Designers are professional artists. We conceptualize, create and produce art. We’re thinkers and dreamers. We wear many hats, from illustrator, photographer, photo retoucher, writer, typesetter, project manager….and the list can go on depending what the project requires. Mostly we design.

Designers create a look, a package, a shell if you will, that is composed of stylized nuggets of information. This information is arranged to appeal to a client’s selected target audience.

More specifically, graphic designers design: signage (displays, menu boards, posters, vehicle wraps, outdoor signage), web design, stickers, logos, stationery packages, notepads, coffee cups, t-shirts, dvd interfaces, dvd and cd case art, folders, brochures, sell sheets, training manuals, water bottles, blogs, packaging, billboards, ads. The list can go on and on. Bottom line, graphic designers are visual artists and can design anything used as a promotional device. We call it, ‘identity’-an assortment of imagery with an undeniable cohesiveness. A graphic designer takes his or her knowledge of communication, concept, applications and mediums and makes them stick together in one beautiful and effective ball of advertising.

Design is everywhere. look around, we did that.
